Why did you take that Photograph? Or, I didn’t see that.
These are two of the most common remarks I get from people, either viewing my work, or from people on my workshops.
I’ll answer the latter first. When I first started to get serious about landscape photography, a friend handed me an 8 X 10 matt with a 5 X 7 opening and said,
“Look through this”. This trained my eye to see how the camera and lens saw the landscape. It made me look at the world differently than most people. I started to see how objects were placed on the canvas we call earth. It taught me how light can change a scene, and most of all, it made me appreciate our earth more.
Why did you take that photograph? There are two reasons. The first reason; because it touched my soul. When I get to an area and before I pick up my camera I like to just look around and try to visualize and feel what is happening.
The second reason; to show people what I saw. Another friend looked at one of my earlier photos and said, “so what’s your point”. That taught me, a photo has to tell the story when the photographer is not there. I hope I have accomplished that with my work.
Thank you for taking the time to view my photography. And please enjoy the beauty of our earth; “One moment at a time”
